Dr. R.A. Sankaran is a dynamic leader with innovative approach and administrative prowess and has a passion to produce intellectuals with strong fundamental knowledge and creative thinking – the need of the hour today. He is a pillar of commitment and determination in his present capacity as principal. He thrives to brand the ecosystem towards student-centric learning. His aspiration is to prepare the next generation Engineers with various skill sets according to the needs of the Industry. He sets high standards for the academics, co-curricular, and extra-curricular development of students. He uses analysis, wisdom, experience, and logical methods to make good decisions.

Spearheaded the National Rankings of Institution in attaining

AICTE and Internshala ranking 2019: Out of 2803 colleges, SCET got 527^th All India rank, 182^th rank in South Zone and 48^th rank in Tamil Nadu.
AICTE and Internshala ranking 2020: Organized Awareness programme for students ‘A Roadmap for Summer Internship’ and subjugated Certificate of Appreciation for active participation.
AICTE Chhatra Vishwa Karma Awards 2019 which recognizes and honour the innovative work of the students displaying exceptional skills in different categories was awarded for the project ‘Cultivation and Harvesting’ and out of 1495 projects, 3 innovative projects were selected and in south zone SCET accomplished second place.
Swachh Campus Ranking 2019 – Annual Swachhta ranking was awarded in the Ceremony of Jal Sakthi Abiyan as the one among top 100 colleges all over India by AICTE and Government of India.
A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Young Research Fellowship was bestowed for the project under the title ‘Cotton India’.
Ensuing MOU with AICTE in Magradarshan Scheme for best practices in Teaching, Learning process.
Global Students’ Solar Workshop – Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150^th birthday and Guinness record in Solar Ambassador workshop partook among 5 lakhs of students worldwide.
Solar Uria Lamp – SOUL competition – our project was tabbed as top 10 among all over India by IIT Bombay and AICTE.
Continuous bagging of Zonal, Inter Zonal and University level winner up and runner up in Volley Ball and in indulging in distinct sports activities.

Research & Development

Associated with AICTE Training and Learning – ATAL for the development of the quality of technical education.
Proposals for CSIR were submitted and accomplished funds for various seminars.
Under the professional reference, the Project ‘Cotton India’ prevailed Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam Young Research Fellowship.
Under Student Project Scheme won prizes and funds from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology every year consecutively.
Recognised Research Supervisor to guide doctoral candidates in Anna University and has guided 04 PhD research scholars to completion.

Smart India Hackathon 2020- Hosted Smart India Hackathon for the first time in 2020.
Mentored Students teams to win cash prizes in Smart India Hackathon (SIH) organized in various institutions such as VIT, IIT, Anna University, PSG, NIT, Raipur, GMR Institute of Technology, Kakkinada, Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology and Sona College of Technology.
Ideathon contest 2020- Hosted and coordinated Ideathon contest 2020, a 36 hours continuous contest.
Structured Students Solar Ambassador Workshop supported by IIT, Bombay and AICTE.
Launched ‘One Student, One Tree ‘campaign and planted 100 saplings and consequently procured SWACHH Bharat Campus award 2019.

To add new capabilities to his professional career, he joined Salem College of Engineering and Technology as Professor, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Vice Principal in 2009 and was promoted as the Principal of the College in the following year.
As a measure of his ambition, he structured Salem College of Engineering and Technology and till now upholding it in all aspects including hostels, transport, recruitment, admissions, counselling, affiliations, accreditations, Placements, Research and Development.
